Dell
Dell enjoys a great reputation in the American computer, hardware, and peripherals market. Since its legendary beginning in the dorm room close to the company founder’s university to the Dell PDA announcement that it would open a new plant in North Carolina, Dell has been and continues to be America’s sweetheart. To be exact, it was the year 2002 that saw Dell get serious about PDAs and Dell PDA software and many consumers waited with baited breath to see what the company would come out with. The result of their patience was the Dell PDA known as the Axim. For a while this model was the golden child of Dell and the company had high hopes for its offerings. Perhaps the biggest highlight came when the actors of the popular television show “24” used the Dell Axim X51 during the show. Suddenly Dell PDAs were the talk of the town and they seemed to fly off the shelves. Consumers loved the 3.7 inch VGA LCD picture screen, the expansion slots for compact flash and the built-in compliance with the famous Bluetooth. They appreciated the additional Dell PDA battery that could be bought as well as the Dell PDA GPS, Dell email capability on their PDAs, the optional Dell PDA car mount and essentially all the other Dell PDA computer software that was available on the market. |

Yet suddenly this year saw a shift in the company and the discount Dell PDA also known as the lower end X51 is not only discontinued but will cease to receive any kind of support in 2010. Perhaps it is the large number of complaints that have cited batteries that became too hot to handle which made consumers back off a bit from these popular models. While the company scrambled to correct the errors and provide their consumers with the best possible product money could buy, the ambiguous instructions as well as the loss of stored data that many consumers experienced were enough to put them off this particular model and actually caused them to eye the entire Axim line with suspicion. At this point in time it is uncertain what the future for Axim will be, whether consumers will continue to embrace not only its technology but its company in particular and also whether or not the company is able to keep up with the demand for fixes, upgrades, and complaints. While many PDAs are actively sold on the Internet, the buzz surrounding this product seems to have simmered down a bit.
