HTC
HTC is short for “High Tech Computer Corporation.” This company is based in Taiwan and until recently it manufactured electronics that would then be re-branded by other companies. Thus, the questions whether or not you own an HTC is actually quite accurate, since it is entirely possible that you have one at home, albeit with a different label. For example, the HTC PDA known as the HTC Galaxy – which also runs GPS for a HTC PDA – is re-branded and sold in stores as either the I-Mate PDA-N or the Qtek G100. Yet where HTC really shines is the HTC PDA phone. The HTC Athena is one of the gadgets that HTC actually also sells under its own name. Known as the HTC X7500 Advantage, or the T-Mobile AMEO, this Windows Mobile pocket PC will enter the market in March of 2007. In many ways it is the crème of the de la crème, yet for a while it is only going to be available in Europe. This sleek PDA has it all: backlit touch screen with dimensions of 640 x 480, a 624 MHz processor, an auto-focus camera and of course Bluetooth connectivity. It is not at all surprising that consumers are chomping at the bit to get their hands on this little device. To find a PDA with HTC label in place, you will most likely have to either purchase the item factory direct, or order it from there. |

Yet even if you do not purchase a gadget with the HTC label on it, you most likely will own one of their electronics products at some point. What is amazing about these machines, as well as the company that manufactures them, is the fact that they are able to manufacture to spec for different outlets. Thus, one HTC PDA connects to a Linux machine while another will not. Additionally, while one machine will accepts games written for HTC PDAs, another will not recognize the codes. This kind of technological versatility is ingenious in its own right.
So go ahead and take a look at the sleek little HTC PDA aluminum cases you may have on your desktop or in your pocket. While they may not carry the very initials you are searching for, you might find the names PPC, Orange, Dopod, T-Mobile, Cingular, and even Grundig! Yet in spite of its niche in the electronics market, the company has begun to turn out its own branded machines, and the next time you see “HTC” somewhere, do not turn away and look for the more popular brands – the odds are you already owned an HTC before and just did not know it! |
