IBM
IBM is a world famous company that has an extremely solid reputation in the consumer electronics market. As a matter of fact, the company has such a good reputation that the IBM PDA was a hit with consumers the world over before the company even unveiled it. The look and feel of the IBM Workpad C3 has the look and feel of a Palm Pilot. With its 2 MB of RAM and built in battery that is available for recharging, as well as its backlit LCD display this unit could easily be mistaken for a Palm, were it not for the IBM logo prominently displayed on the upper left of the PDA. It is interesting to note that the IBM PDA functions on the Palm OS platform, thus permitting IBM to make good use of already existing technology. As such, IBM PDA problems are rare, and considering the wealth of memory that accompanies this little device, it is not surprising that the general public took to it immediately. Even the IBM PDA batteries are considered to be a plus in favor of IBM, even though the recharging is only accomplished while the device is firmly set into the SYNC cradle. |

Wagging tongues were quick to point out that the Workpad C3 is nothing more than a re-branded Palm V, and to the astonishment of the not initiated these critics are correct. Yet in spite of this somewhat unexpected revelation, the little device grew to be quite popular. For those techies who really dig through the materials and online references that accompany this technology, there is the mention that the main difference between the Workpad C3 and the Palm V is the fact that the former is equipped with an IrDA port which IBM allegedly has improved.
If you have not done so, go ahead and check out the many free games for IBM PDAs, the available GPS software for the IBM PDA, and even some freeware that you will be able to download from a number of shareware sites. While GPS for the IBM PDA is probably the most popular function, the date book, address book and the software known as Graffiti character recognition are still among the most favored features. You will be amazed also by the sleek design, light weight, and ease of operation that make this little Palm look-alike a character with a big following in its own right. |
