Motorola
It took a while, but Motorola finally got into the game. The Motorola PDA was quite possibly one of the longest awaited offerings in the electronics market, and it was not until November of 2005 that Motorola announced that it, too, had made the plunge into the market. While Motorola may have made some overtures in the past that it was interested in adding its technology to the mix, the company wisely waited until it had just the right product to impress the consumers. After all, ever since the first Palm Pilot came out, the public has become used to smaller, better, faster, and more encompassing services and any PDA Motorola would develop would have to be able to swim quickly or face the risk of sinking. Motorola chose November of 2005 to not only announce its Motorola PDA, but booked solid for the service was the terrestrial trunked radio network (TETRA) which would be the operating platform. Thus, the company also defined its user: the public safety professional on the move who needed access to data applications which were on a two way basis. Taking a hint from their successful line of two-way radios, Motorola realized that while the consumer market was flooded with gadgets to the business owners and also the private consumer, there were precious few PDAs that were designed with the needs of those in mind who do not make their living in a cushy office crunching numbers and doing business deals that involve a lot of paper shuffling. |

Instead, Motorola came out with a PDA without much freeware and other assorted side-lined items that might crows the device, and instead the company concentrated on building a PDA that would withstand drops, shocks, and being rattled while on the job with those who make this country run from outside an office. Offering needed GPS Motorola PDA software as well as camera service, this PDA has none of the little frills that make private users enthusiastic about the device, yet it has everything that a public safety official may need in the field. It is no surprise that that the market was more than ready for this device when Motorola decided to begin marketing it, and at this point in time it appears that the gamble to wait and market to a niche within the population has paid off. Who knows, maybe one day the company will come out with a device for the rest of us as well?
