Screen Saver Software
Screen saver software used to be the kind of software that was a necessity to protect the computer monitor. In days gone by, computer monitors operated with cathode ray tubes which were essential in the creation of the images that you would see. The downside of these CRT monitors lay in the fact that an image that was left on the screen for a long time would cause a darkening of that area of the screen, leading to barely discernable shadows that would in time get more pronounced. If enough of these shadows were present on the screen, your ability to truly discern the fine points of graphics or writing was marred and your enjoyment of the equipment most certainly considerably lessened. Back in the day, screen saver software was thought to be the solution to the darkening problem. Easy programs would display alternate characters, moving pictures, or simply different colors while the computer was no in use, thus preventing any one image from being displayed on a CRT screen for too long. As time went on, the ability to simply blacken the screen has rendered screen saver software obsolete yet many users are not that quick to let go. The same is true of those who use PDAs. Even though the odds of actually needing screen saver software for the little handheld PC are extremely low, the fact remains that many users are accustomed to the flying toasters and other fun images that screen savers are famous for. |

Of course, when it comes to screensavers, PDA screen saver software manufacturers have gone a lot further than simply supplying the same antiquated PDA screensavers that they have used on the desktops. Free PDA screensavers are now available that display hip pictures, moving scenes, and even popular movie themes. While some screensavers for PDAs are free, the more intricate ones cost a little bit of money – usually less than $10. Take for example the PDA screensaver that is known as Downyhood screensaver. This delightful little bit of software shows a little village with lovable characters that are interacting with one another each day. A bit like a movie, the computer user will be able to watch those little guys go through their daily routines and in a way become part of the story simply by getting to know the characters that perform their little antics every day. While you will not need the screensaver to preserve your display area, you might want to consider using it simply for the sake of privacy so that you may keep open some applications while at the same time covering up your work from prying eyes while not actually in use.
